The state of play. Sep

Whilst the Cabinet reshuffle has seen the back of Andrew Lansley – the worst Health Minister since the foundation of the NHS – most of the same faces remain including George Osborne, now distinguished by being the first person to be roundly booed in the Olympic Stadium on top of his failures as Chancellor.

It’s pretty clear that this Tory-led Government continues to stick to policies which are demonstrably making matters worse. Most economic indicators show what a disaster Cameron and Osborne have been and most economists are now calling for a change along the lines advocated by Labour. The only challenge within Tory ranks is from those who want more tax cuts for the rich and even more cuts. Of course, no one knows what the Libdems stand for now – except for clinging to office and hoping that something will turn up.

It doesn’t need economists to tell us that unemployment remains high, higher education harder to afford so that applications are already well down and health service waiting lists longer. Worse is round the corner – most of the benefit cuts announced have not yet come into effect and we have yet to see the full impact of the unwanted and  unneeded and NHS changes.

We encourage members to do whatever they can to insist on greater transparency from the new Kernow Clinical Commissioning Group (replacing the PCT) and to press it to fully maintain the NHS ethos. Cornwall is in the first tranche of areas to make this change and it’s urgent to contact the KCCG (details on www.kernowcc.org.uk) and to make our views plain in such ways as contacting our GPs, writing to the papers

  1. Are Candy Atherton and Brod Ross not husband and wife?? If so, why do you not mention it??

  2. Hi Mr Batten,

Yes, Candy and Brod are husband and wife. I was well known as Candy Atherton before I met Brod and at 50 was not prepared to start getting known by a new name again. Many women these days adopt this style. We will be appearing together on a number of leaflets.
